Changing Attitude Ireland (CAI) has announced the publication of Pride in Prayer and Worship: LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Resources and Themes for Pride Season, a new resource designed to support churches, worship leaders, families and communities in celebrating Pride Month.

Edited by Dr Scott Golden, the booklet offers a wide range of materials, including prayers, readings, music suggestions, symbolic actions and service templates. The resource seeks to encourage the Church by providing practical tools that honour LGBTQ+ people.

The publication is intended for those involved in leading worship, as well as for individuals and families who wish to mark Pride Month in a way that affirms their faith. Throughout, the resource reflects CAI’s commitment to fostering greater inclusion and understanding within the life of the Church.

At the heart of the booklet are two key texts: the CAI Prayer and the CAI Hymn. Together, these articulate the themes reflected in CAI’s phrase, “Open hearts for an open Church,” which serves as both an aspiration and a guiding principle for the resource.

The booklet opens with a statement outlining the organisation’s purpose: “Changing Attitude Ireland exists to promote love, understanding and justice for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, particularly within the life of the Church of Ireland. Its vision is of a Church in which LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples may express their faith openly, be fully accepted, loved and valued and participate without restriction in all aspects of the Church’s life.”

A notable feature of the publication is its collection of readings for Pride. Alongside carefully selected biblical passages, the resource includes a range of modern texts and poetry that explore themes of identity, belonging, resilience and grace. Among the featured works are Pied Beauty by Gerard Manley Hopkins, Wild Geese by Mary Oliver and Still I Rise by Maya Angelou.

By bringing together scripture, poetry, prayer and liturgical resources, Changing Attitude Ireland offers churches and communities a thoughtful and practical way to celebrate Pride Month.
