The Most Sick'ning Moments of Rupaul's Drag Race Season 9

We bid farewell to Season 9 of Rupaul's Drag Race by looking back at some the most memorable moments this season had to offer.

The Drag Queens competing in season 9 of Rupaul's Drag Race pose together in colourful outfits in front of a black back-drop.

“I’d like to keep it on please”

WARNING: Drag-race spoilers ahead!

Hello hello hello!

Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 9 has come to a confetti covered close with 3 of the most spectacular lip sync for your lives we’ve ever seen (I’m still not over those wig changes). To celebrate the most watched season finale in drag race history, here are some of the most memorable moments…

1) The Lady Gaga Reveal

What better way to kick off the season than by sending Lady flippin’ Gaga into the workroom in the first episode. When mother monster arrives through those doors the Queens think they’ve met their Derrick Barry of the season, only to realise that this isn’t some Lady Gaga lookalike. She’s 100% Gaga. Who knows how they’ll top this next season. Might I suggest doubling up on gay/drag icons and sending in Liza Minnelli wearing a Cher costume?

2) Return of the Cucu

Cynthia Lee Fontaine and her cucu made a surprise return this season! I’m team justice-for-cucu all the way, but for other girlfriends & squirrelfriends Cynthia’s constant cucu-ing might have gotten a little repetitive…

3) Eureka Splits

Eureka’s knee popped while doing the splits in the cheerleading challenge, making her the first queen to ever get sent home with an injury. Fear not, Eureka has accepted Ru’s invitation to return next season on the sole condition that she lets someone else do  the splits, she’ll take the cartwheels.

4) Farrah Moan-ing

*Whines something incomprehensible about high-lighter*

5) Shea Couleé does a better Blac Chyna than the real Black Chyna

Shea Couleé stole the show as Blac Chyna in The Kardashians Musical. Look at the body! The popping! The locking!

6) Mask Gate

Everyone was excited to see baby queen Valentina lip sync for her life against the skull-faced Nina Bo’nina Brown (serving up some Halloween arts and crafts realness), but when the track started playing and that mask stayed on the judges didn’t miss a trick. “This is lip sync battle, we need to see your lips.” This makes for a moment that is so bad and so good all mixed to together in a drag-race cocktail.

7) The Unicorn Runway Looks

Just when you thought Rupaul’s Drag Race couldn’t raise the bar any higher…they replaced the bar with a rainbow and got all the Queens to dress up as unicorns. Can this please become an acceptable fashion trend already?

8) Liza’s High-Kicks

While this year’s Snatch Game wasn’t much to shake a stick at, Alexis Michelle’s version of Liza (with a z) stole the show with her high kicks and jazz hands galore. Even though Sasha Velour’s impression of a “teutonic bisexual” Marlene Dietrich took the snatch game crown, this overly-enthusiastic version of Liza is too delightful to go unmentioned!

9) “You’re perfect, you’re beautiful, you look like Linda Evangelista”

Aja & Valentina made their case to become the new Coco & Alyssa in one of the shadiest moments of the season. Has anyone asked Linda Evangelista what she thinks of the whole thing?

10) Category Is

10s across the board for this finalist rap challenge. It’s like ‘Read U, Wrote U‘, but without a Roxxy Andrews in sight!

11) The Shadiest Reunion

Not only did Aja & Farrah Moan (*whines*) come for Valentina during the reunion, but all the Queens joined in to rename the ‘Miss Congeniality’ award ‘Fan Favourite’ instead. The library was open, and full of angry Queens.

12) All the show-stopping semi-final lip sync wig reveals & costume changes

This season ended with not one…

Not two…

But THREE mid lip sync battle reveals!

Masks! Petals! Wigs! Secret dresses hidden under suspicious looking tunics! Sasha’s petal-filled wig reveal is pretty much all I’ve been thinking about since the final. If you weren’t up out of your seat roaring along with that crowd, you need to go rewatch it in all it’s rose-covered glory. And Peppermint’s twirl into that costume/wig change combo? Stunning.

 13) Honourable Mention: The Cheerleading Challenge makes Jaymes Mansfield a star

Although Jaymes Mansfield didn’t make much of an impression (apart from the actual tiny puppet Jaymes from Episode 1. Snaps for you), her cheerleading challenge tumble has become one of the best memes of this season.

I leave with you with this, because remember if you can’t love a tumbling Jaymes Mansfield, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen?
