I don’t know what’s happening, but I like it.
On Saturday June 24th, Mother is teaming up with Smirnoff and hosting the biggest party of 2017! We asked the performing acts to pick their Top 5 Queer Anthems to get in the mood to celebrate Pride this week! Today we have asked Sarah Byrne to let us know what her favourite tracks are.
Sarah is one half of electronic pop duo Faune, a creative producer, dirty cabaret singer, event kween and ex-religion teacher. Gold is her favourite currency.
If you haven’t seen it already check out the super stylised and sexy music video for their amazing track “Waiting“.
Here’s Sarah’s picks for you!
Madonna ‘Vogue’
Ok, so it’s a cisgender white woman appropriating a movement created by queer people of colour, which is problematic. But it’s also an absolute CLASSIQUE so it incites a confusing mix of intense joy and guilt on the dance floor.
The Communards ‘Don’t leave me this way’
Thelma Houston’s version is a disco stomper, but the intro for this always gives me chills, and Somervilles vocals are iconic.

Dee-Lite ‘Groove is in the Heart’
Lady Miss Kier’s faux queen style alone would be enough to carry this video alone, but the song itself is pure 90’s joy with an unforgettable bass line.
Electric Six ‘Gay Bar’
I don’t know what’s happening, but I like it.
Peaches ‘Fuck the pain away’
This is 17 years old and still feels completely contemporary. Electronic pop perfection from the Queer Queen herself.
