In an age of Instagram and Twitter, it’s hard to imagine there is any Hollywood mystique left in our minds, but thanks to charity MIX NYC, we now have the opportunity to get even closer to our favourite stars.

A host of celebrities including actors James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Cera, as well as an assortment of heavy-hitters from the art, music, literary and theatre worlds – plus a few porn stars thrown in for good measure – are auctioning off disposable cameras full of unique personal photos. Over 150 celebrities in total will partake in the auction as part of MIX NYC’s #NakedEye Camera Benefit.

MIX NYC, the longest running queer film festival in New York, has tipped it as a “once in a lifetime opportunity of an unfiltered glimpse at the way celebrities live” can be bid for by visiting the Mix NYC website. A launch party on May 15 at New York City’s hip venue The Slipper Room with RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar Alaska Thunderfuck will celebrate the Naked Eye and include a selection of performances, prizes and ‘VIP experiences’.

Known to be a launching pad for emerging artists, MIX NYC was born in the crucible of the AIDS crisis to devise new media and artistic forms that called attention to the epidemic and social injustices. With James Franco in the mix, it’s hard to imagine these shots being anything but controversial!

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.

During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.

GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
