Shon Faye Perfectly Sums Up Transphobic Alex Jones' Trans Porn Watching 'Hypocrisy'

Writer and activist Shon Faye posted about the apparent "hypocrisy" in Alex Jones' viewing of trans porn while at the same time being notoriously transphobic.

Alex Jones, the ultra right-wing conspiracy theorist host of InfoWars famed for his transphobic and homophobic rants, hit the headlines for a different reason recently when he accidentally revealed his interest in trans porn. During one of his shows, his phone visibly showed a tab for a porn site featuring trans performer Marissa Minx.

Jones was branded a hypocrite for watching trans porn while at the same time spouting hate speech about the trans community, but LGBT+ activist and writer, Shon Faye, has summed up the Alex Jones controversy perfectly.

In an Instagram post, Faye, herself a trans woman, took a screen grab of a newspaper headline and then spoke about the correlation between Jones’ transphobia and his sexual interest in trans women.

“Unsure why the coverage of this prick keeps suggesting his apparent sexual interest in trans women is “hypocritical” because he is publicly so transphobic,” the post read, “Lots of transphobic men watch porn with trans performers. The viewer stats are there. Lots of men with anti-trans views – indeed lots of men generally who never discuss it – can be intrigued by trans women sexually. This is not “hypocrisy” it is patriarchy: men can want to fuck trans women while also hating them, just as men can want to fuck cis women while also hating them. It’s part of the whole “woman” thing.”

Faye continued: “It’s strange how when we take our eyes off the feminisms of white and thin and able bodied and cisgender women we so quickly stray back into upholding the hugely patriarchal lie that men wanting to fuck you means they care about you. On the contrary, sometimes fetishising you is just another mode of dehumanisation that fits neatly with bigotry.”

Marissa Minx, the porn performer Jones was watching, said in an interview with website them. – Many fans are secretive about really being into trans women and it’s unfortunate that they feel not only that they need to hide their true sexuality — but then bash the very thing they desire. We all have unique tastes, but nothing justifies hate toward others.”
