A-list songwriter extraordinaire, Sia, has given a rare gift to her adoring and promotion-starved fans – a live performance on the Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime TV show.
Singing her monumental new single Chandelier – with her back to the audience – the 38 year-old belted out the song with her trademark vocals leaving no question as to whether it was ‘The Real Sia’ on stage.
At the same time, the video, which has been viewed more than seven million times to date, was recreated in a spectacular live performance by 11 year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler, wearing a trademark Sia blonde wig. The video, directed by fellow Australian filmmaker Daniel Askill, has received praise from fans, including Glee actress Naya Rivera who tweeted, “Ok my jaw is completely dropped at how good this @Sia Chandelier video is, that girl Maddie is beyond talented. Best video ever”.
Sia recently signed a new recording contract with RCA Records that allows her to refrain from the traditional promotional and touring duties that normally accompany a new album release. She spoke in detail about her experiences on both sides of the music industry with Zane Lowe in a recent rare interview, spilling her secrets on writing a hit record. “Keep it simple, repetitive and have a strong title – that’s what the labels are looking for, something people can Google”.
Sia’s eagerly-awaited new album, 1000 Forms of Fear, is released on July 8, 2014 via RCA Records.
