It’s hard to believe that it was this time last month we were launching the brand new look of our magazine as we waved goodbye to the nine-year old design that saw GCN through most of this decade.
A couple of weeks beforehand, we invited our readers to join us for the GCN relaunch party in Pantibar, and the turnout and feedback on the new issue of GCN – both it’s new look and the refreshed content – was incredible.
Not only was it our largest issue to date, with a bumper Pride section inside, it featured content including an interview with marriage equality activist Dr Gráinne Healy, a report on the Gays Against Guns movement in the US post-Pulse and an investigative piece that examines the chequered relationship between Russia and Chechnya in light of Ramzan Kadyrov’s recent purge against gays.
Conor Behan delved into the iconography and symbolism of a pop concert following the attack at Ariane Grande’s concert in Manchester, Brian Finnegan caught up with Joni Crone, who outed herself live on The Late Late Show in 1980 and there’s even a fashion photo shoot collaboration from the delightful duo, stylist Brian Conway and photographer Kenny Whittle.
A New Chapter
But what really made the GCN relaunch party special was having so many of our readers there to share in celebrating the next step in the evolution of our LGBT+ community magazine.
So we’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who made it down to Pantibar last month (and of course to Pantibar and everyone who works there) to help us mark this exciting new chapter in our history.
We’re also giving away a pair of tickets to Castlepalooza during the August bank holiday weekend, so be sure to enter the competition here.
So without further ado, here are some of the best moments our photographer Babs Daly caught on polaroid film!
