The official twitter account for Ru Paul’s Drag Race has released a brand new teaser video for this Friday’s episode, hinting at a massive curveball to be thrown at the queens which will feature a “Ru-ligious awakening”.
Ru teases the queens with a huge twist in uttering the never-heard-before phrase “for the first time in HERstory…” which was met with a series of gasps from the contestants.
The newest episode is looking like it will serve as a tribute to pop royalty, with the promo video inviting fans to “come worship at the Church of Britney and the Church of Maria”.
For this week’s challenge, the queens pop-icon knowledge will be put to the test in performing “live diva worship chat shows” in what’s looking like a face-off between two opposing groups.
As if the Britney-Mariah showdown wasn’t enough, a bombshell is also set to be dropped on the queens. Upon the announcement, contestants and judges alike began to look concerned and Silky Nutmeg Ganache exclaimed: “Really, bitch?”
Aussie queer popstar and Youtuber Troye Sivan and one of OUT magazine’s top 100 LGBT+ people – Guillermo Díaz – will be guest judges this week.
This will be the third episode in Season 11 of Drag Race which has included 14 new queens including the likes of Ariel Versace, Brook Lynn Hytes, Yvie Oddly and returning queen Vanessa Vanjie Mateo who was eliminated in the first episode of season 10 to the great surprise of viewers.
This season has featured celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and has already been an emotional rollercoaster, managing to pull on our heartstrings only two episodes in.
We learned about Mercedes Iman Diamond’s experience with racism and ill-health last week after she revealed she had been put on a no-fly list which forced her to drive to and from shows, eventually leading to her suffering a stroke.
Tensions have already begun to rise between Silky Nutmeg Ganache and her competitors, with Brooke Lynn Hyte’s commenting on her extroverted behaviour: “She knows exactly what she’s doing and she’s going to get her moment.”
