The Friday Four Vol. 55

Lady Gaga – Aura

This tune leaked in demo form months ago and with the release of the movie Machete Kills, which stars the pop starlet, Gaga has officially debuted this song from new album Artpop. There’s a deragned guitar riff, yelps and groans from Gaga and a solid gold chorus that hits you after the weird flamenco rave bit. An unusual song but one that wows you after a few listens.

TLC – Meant To Be

11 years on from the death of Lisa Left-Eye Lopes, T-Boz and Chilli of TLC are returning with a new TV movie about the band’s success and a new best of. Part of that package is a new single with Ne-Yo, a midtempo R&B gem that wouldn’t have been out of place on Crazy Sexy Cool. Great nostalgia and a cracking current pop tune.

Bastille – Of The Night

Bastille have had a spectacular year with Pompeii being one of the biggest singles of the year. As they get set to re-release their debut album they’ve a studio take on a popular cover from their live show as their new single. A mashup of Snap’s Ryhthm is a Dancer and Corona’s Ryhtm of the Night, it’s a moody and surprisingly effective combination of two 90s dance songs that works better than you’d expect.

Julio Bashmore – Peppermint feat. Jessie Ware

Dance music titan Julio Bashmore has a knack for slinky house cuts with plenty of mainstream appeal. And his work for Jessie Ware has included some of her best work on singles like Running. So to have the pair reunite is certainly cause for excitement. Peppermint lives up to expectations. Towering synths, stuttering hand claps and a thundering yet sort of sexy kick drum give this an urgency that will have you hitting the repeat button. (this video has a strobe effect thing that you might want to be careful of!)
