Iconic Dublin LGBTQ+ venue The George is celebrating a major double victory after taking home two trophies at the Bar of the Year Awards 2026. The much-loved venue was named Late Bar / Night Club of the Year, while also taking home the People’s Choice Award for Dublin for the second year running. The wins mark another significant milestone for the space that has played a central role in Dublin’s LGBTQ+ community for decades.
Reacting to the People’s Choice Award, The George said the recognition was particularly meaningful because of the role its customers and wider community played in the achievement. Securing the Dublin title for a second consecutive year highlights the strong connection between The George and its loyal patrons and reflects the continued support of the people who visit and champion the venue.
“Winning an award is always special. Winning one because our guests, community and supporters chose us for two years in a row means even more,” the venue stated online.
Regarding the Late Bar / Night Club of the Year award, they shared that it “is a fantastic recognition of our team, performers and the energy they bring to the venue every week.”

The double win at the Bar of the Year Awards comes during an important period in The George’s history. The venue has also been celebrating its 40th birthday, marking four decades as one of Ireland’s best-known LGBTQ+ bars and clubs.
Since opening its doors, The George has become much more than a nightlife destination. It has been an important gathering place for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community, providing a welcoming space for generations of customers while remaining closely connected to the social and cultural life of Dublin.
