We’ve all spent the last few days holed up watching what is probably the LGBTQ+ reality dating show of the year, right? In case you haven’t heard yet, Netflix’s The Ultimatum is back, and this time, the series is filled to the brim with queer drama. Bringing together five female and non-binary couples under the premise that one partner wants marriage and the other one doesn’t, the show ‘tests’ the different relationships in an intoxicating way.
The plot goes as such: each couple ‘breaks up’ and has the chance to date the rest of the contestants, seeing if they feel more chemistry with another person on the show. At the end of the free-for-all mingling experience, participants are paired up with someone other than their original partner, and they enter into a three-week trial marriage. After the experiment, each contestant has to decide between either marrying their original partner or their new-found love interest. As a third option, the contestants can decide to leave both relationships, new and old, behind.
With the first four episodes released on May 24 and the second lot having dropped yesterday (May 31) we are only left waiting for the final two, which will reveal the contestants’ decisions.
But if like us, you can’t wait a whole week until you get to immerse yourself in heaps of queer drama, we have a little bit of a recap on what’s happened so far.
Here comes everything you need to know about The Ultimatum: Queer Love couples:

Lexi and Rae met three years ago on Bumble and currently live in California. Following their breakup in the series, Lexi began dating Mal and the pair seems to have a genuine connection, which the fans are loving!
On the other hand, Rae started dating Vanessa (or Voldemort, as some call her) and after the pair got intimate, tensions started running high between Rae and her original partner Lexi. We definitely want to see what way this one goes over the course of the last two episodes.

Mildred and Tiff have been together for two years and have admitted to having communication issues. After a very emotional re-coupling, Mildred went off for a trial marriage with Aussie, and Tiff eventually chose to go live with Sam.
It wasn’t long before the cracks started showing, and after a few pretty hairy fights, it seems that a dog might have the power to come between one of these newly coupled pairs. Although the experiment may be influencing Mildred and Tiff to fix their original issues, no one knows how their relationship will progress.

The next couple, Xander and Vanessa, have known each other since high school and are on a wild ride with one wanting to start a family and the other being afraid of losing her freedom. While Vanessa thoroughly enjoyed her ‘single’ life on the show, after the re-coupling, it seems that Xander may have found found a genuinely better connection with Yoly.
Meanwhile, Vanessa has been dating Rae, which doesn’t really seem to be working out, especially after Lexi, Rae’s original partner, called Vanessa out for having “dubious intentions”. This one could be the shock twist of the season.

Sam and Aussie have known each other for a year and are currently disagreeing on when the right time is to take the next step. After the re-coupling, both of their new relationships have been far from perfect. While it seems likely that they might rekindle their love, they are still struggling to find common ground about marriage, and some think this one could go either way.

Between Yoly and Mal, who were the fan’s darling couple at the beginning of the show, feelings seem to be all over the palace. Yoly, who ended up being re-coupled with Xander, seems to have fallen head over heels, but also still has feelings for Mal. This pair has brought us the biggest cliffhanger to date, as audiences see Mal propose to Yoly, before the episode cuts off. We need to know what happens, so let’s this next week flies by and we can finally get some answers.
