Emergency services have responded after a suspicious letter sent to gay rights organisation, GLEN, is being treated as a terrorist threat.

Early this afternoon, Gay & Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN) was sent a letter which was opened by a member of staff and contained an unidentified blue powder with a note reading ‘Goodbye’.

GLEN contacted the police, and subsequently emergency services closed access to Exchange Street Upper, with all staff in the building being instructed to stay inside until further notice.

“There has been a speedy and professional response from the Fire Brigade, the army and the bomb squad and they have sought to reassure us that there is nothing untoward in the package,” says Brian Sheehan, Director of GLEN.

UPDATE:

The unidentified powder was tested, and was found to be non-toxic.
