Olympic diver Tom Daley was on board a plane carrying 301 people that had to make an emergency landing in Siberia, The Independent reports.

The openly gay sportsman, who was recently voted Attitude‘s ‘Sexiest Man in the World’, was travelling from the world championships in China to London with his scriptwriter boyfriend Dustin Lance Black, when the incident took place.

Daley took to Instagram to document the incident. “Just had to make an emergency landing in Irkutsk, Russia on the way back from Shanghai. Here’s the pic of the fuel dump before landing”, he captioned the image.

The Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340 suffered a “technical difficulty” and made a forced landing in Siberia. A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic told, “We can confirm that the VS251 travelling from Shanghai to London Heathrow has diverted to Irkutsk Airport, Russia, as a precautionary measure due to a technical issue. Safety and security is always our top priority”.
