Kellogg's Receive Backlash Over Tony The Tiger Pride Ad

Kellogg’s has come under scrutiny recently for showing Tony the Tiger supporting the LGBT community at a Pride event, and in Atlanta’s Pride Guide.

Those kind and liberal folks at the American Family Association have vowed to boycott Kellogg’s products because, you know, a cartoon tiger is going to turn their children gay…

The advertisement is a celebration of Kellogg’s accomplishments in accepting and supporting those in the LGBT community.

The advertisement states that, “at Kellogg’s, we’re an evolving culture that respects and accepts employees’ sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression so that all employees can be authentic and fully engaged.”

AFA’s Facebook page is filled with comments from furious right-wingers wondering why ‘straight pride’ hasn’t been celebrated, and calling the move ‘pervy’. Their members, among other things, equated Tony the Tiger with Camel Cigarettes as a way to promote homosexuality and smoking, respectively, to children.

The Huffington Post received a statement from Kellogg’s Global Head of Diversity, Mark King, saying that “Kellogg’s is firmly committed to diversity and inclusion and puts a tremendous amount of effort toward ensuring equality through our policies, benefits and culture.”

Kellogg is just one in a long list of multinational corporations to celebrate LGBT causes, including Apple, Google and Facebook.
