A transgender teen sent a heartfelt letter to his neighbour, thanking her for flying the trans pride flag in front of her Utah home. The 15 year-old boy, who is not supported at home, moved his neighbour to tears in the touching note.

Audrey, who is a transgender woman living in Salt Lake City, posted the note on Reddit last week.

The letter reads:

“Neighbor,

Thank you for having a trans flag waving in your yard. I am a 15 year-old trans boy living in an unsupportive household, but every time I see your flag I feel better. Thank you for your existence and pride.

THANK YOU!

P.S. My handwriting is so bad! I’m sorry!”

Audrey responded to the teenager on her Reddit post, adding “I hear you young man and I hope you keep your chin up!”

Audrey spoke to PinkNews to share her admiration for the boy’s courage.

“I felt crushed that this teenager isn’t getting the support that they deserve, but I also felt truly inspired by them.”

She added: “It must have taken a lot of courage to write the note and drop it off on a stranger’s doorstep.”

Audrey acknowledged how crucial family support and visibility are to the LGBT+ youth. Unlike the note’s author, Audrey was supported by those around her.

“Fortunately for me, my family and friend support system is relatively unchanged compared to before I came out. It breaks my heart to see kids like him have to struggle with an unsupportive family because having family on your side makes a world of difference.”

Audrey’s shared the letter in the hopes that the transgender teen will see how supportive the LGBT+ community can be.

“I genuinely hope that this young man sees the amount of attention and love his letter is receiving.”
