A 25 year-old GAA player was subjected to homophobic abuse on Twitter after a gay porn video which he allegedly starred in surfaced online.
The adult film, which features a man that appears to be the athlete discussing sexual preference and engaging in oral and anal sex, is openly available on a well-known porn site where ‘straight men’ engage in gay sex acts for money.
The man in the video uses the pseudonym “Fergus”, however he is seen to be wearing his London GAA club jersey and his face is clearly visible. The father of one spoke about it on Twitter on Tuesday, but has since deleted his social media profiles.
While many commenters on Twitter have bombarded the athlete, who is widely named on the social network, with tweets calling him a “sick fag”, many have stepped up to defend the footballer.
One Twitter user wrote, “heart warming to see is the support … hope he takes comfort in knowing there are thousands of people supporting him” and “What [he] does is none of our business, what he does in his private life to make a living is his. No shame at all. His choice.” Another wrote, “The amount of abuse [he] is receiving on Twitter is pure homophobic thrash. Some people are so behind the times.”
The GAA star was set to play a match this Sunday, but it is unknown whether he will still join his squad on the pitch.
