On Saturday June 24th, Mother is teaming up with Smirnoff and hosting the biggest party of 2017! We asked the performing acts to pick their Top 5 Queer Anthems to get in the mood to celebrate Pride this week!
Veda & her Witches, Pixie Woo and Angelinna Lovelace are three of Dublin’s most sickening drag queens. This coven of queens can be found at Witchy Wednesdays in the George every week.
Here are their favourite queer anthems!
Veda
We Got The Power by Gorillaz
This is my dance of the day. I’m obsessed with the message, the lyrics make me well up and the beats are fantastic.
Be The One – Dua Lipa
This track smells of summer, it’s sexy and beguiling, I love it, hope to hear it everywhere over this weekend.
Angelina
Free – Ultra Nate
This song makes me super happy everytime I listen to it, it inspires me to get outta bed cause nobody can’t do me but me.
Body Beautiful – Salt n Pepa
This one is empowering, it inspires me to love myself, to accept, love and be proud of every little part of me.
All The Lovers – Kylie Minogue
This song is a message of pure love, it gives me chills in the best way possible. I love Kylie so much!!
Pixie
Bronski Beat – Why
I’ve always loved this song but when Jimmy Somerville made a video signing this after pulse shooting the lyrics really hit home with me. Still as relevant as it was when it was written.

Amanda Lear – Follow Me
One of my favourite queer icons and a queen of disco. I love dropping this song into sets.

Pet Shop Boys – It’s A Sin
I remember seeing this song on TV when I was a 12 and becoming obsessed with it. Then finally seeing them live at Electric Picnic and getting to experience this song with thousands of other queers was a really special moment.
The Pointer Sisters – Dare me
There are some songs that have zero queer significance but really speak to me on a queer level and this one of them. There’s such an aggression in the lyrics about daring to love someone. Also you can’t get gayer than the pointer sisters.
Scissor Sisters – Lets have a Kiki
You don’t get a more unapologetically queer than Scissor Sisters and this song ticks all the boxes. Teaching the kids the gay vernacular and it even had its own dance!!
Follow our Spotify playlist to keep updated with more picks from the other acts performing & to get you in the mood to have a kiki!
