Voters to be asked if they want Bareback Porn Ban

California will ask its voters whether filming bareback porn should be banned

The ballot will take place next year. If passed, the initiative would make it mandatory to wear condoms in all pornographic scenes filmed in the state, for both hetero and homosexual scenes.

The initiative was submitted by Michael Weinstein of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Weinstein had failed three times to get California legislators to mandate contraception — including condoms, goggles and dental dams — on porn sets.

Memebers of the adult entertainment industry have argued it is unnecessary as regular vetting and testing is already in place for actors.

No incident of an actor being infected with HIV on a porn set has been reported since 2004.

However, the  AIDS Healthcare Foundation claims pornography studios are setting a bad example on condom use.

Weinstein told the LA Times of the new initiative: “We’ve taken polls that show, statewide, 71% support. We’re very confident that we will be successful on election day. There is no area of employment where safety is optional.”
