Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF) returns from February 22 to March 2, with the programme packed with queer highlights, one of which is The Summer with Carmen. It screens in the Light House Cinema on the evening of Friday, March 1, and GCN has a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader!
The film follows best friends Demosthenes and Nikitas who, while having a day-long swim at Athens’ queer beach, recall the events of a recent summer that involve a dog named Carmen. The pair endeavour to turn the story into aspiring filmmaker Nikitas’ first screenplay, but while imagining their lives as a film, the two come face to face with the pending conflicts of their colourful relationship.
Directed by Zacharias Mavroeidis, The Summer With Carmen has been described as a “sexy and charming comedy that envelops you in a warm embrace”. The screening additionally comes following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Greece, and what better way to celebrate the news than by watching a fabulous LGBTQ+ film from the country?
