GCN readers, here is your chance to win tickets to see Who I Am Not, an impactful new documentary screening at 3:30pm on Monday, August 7, at the Irish Film Institute (IFI) as part of the GAZE International LGBTQIA Film Festival. To be in with a chance of winning one of five pairs of tickets, all you have to do is answer a question at the end of the article.
The documentary is described as, “An intimate portrait of the lives of two intersex South Africans and the challenges they face navigating binary sex and gender systems.”
It follows beauty queen Sharon-Rose Khumalo and intersex rights activist Dimakatso Sebidi through the medical world, their personal lives, and more. Tunde Skovran directs the documentary which has already won 10 awards and been nominated for an additional four.
The screening takes place as part of 2023 GAZE Film Festival, an annual event that started back in 1992 with the aim of celebrating and showcasing queer films and filmmakers.
“On behalf of the board of GAZE I’m delighted to introduce you to this year’s festival programme and invite you to join us for five days and nights of unforgettable cinematic experiences this summer,” said festival Chairperson Tom Creed when launching the 2023 programme.
“It’s our 31st edition and we’re celebrating our dirty thirties by moving back to our traditional dates over the August bank holiday weekend – which means an extra day of screenings, more opportunities to spend whole days immersed in LGBTQIA+ stories from Ireland and around the world, and more thrilling late nights together with the lights off.”
