If you’ve been locked away from all things internet over the past few days, you may have missed the new ‘Ice Bucket Challenge‘ that has been sweeping the cyberspace.

Now, before you start whinging about the stupidity of these chain-memes (which we totally understand), it’s good to note that this isn’t a mere Neknominate type social media fab where kids do something ridiculous and dangerous for no good reason. Nope, celebrities and plebeians alike have been posting videos of themselves dumping buckets of ice water over their heads to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The campaign has already raised an astounding $11 million for the ALS Association. The figures are not surprising considering A-listers from Justin Timberlake to Taylor Swift have all been taking the challenge and nominating another person to do it within 24 hours… and so the chain continues.
