A survey carried out by GCN (Gay Community News) has identified that 95% of gay people will vote Yes in the Same-Sex Marriage Referendum.
Answering the question ‘Should same-sex marriage be given equal recognition in the Irish Constitution’? 1,063 respondents, identifying themselves as members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community, said ‘Yes’.
37 people said ‘No’, while 21 were undecided.
Commenting on the survey, Editor of GCN, Brian Finnegan said, “There are some commentators in the media recently who identify themselves as gay and claim that a large section of the LGBT community is against same-sex marriage.
“This survey proves that these commentators do not represent the vast majority of the LGBT community, who wish to be equally recognised and will vote to end constitutional discrimination against lesbian and gay citizens of Ireland.”
A Millward Brown/Sunday Independent poll found that more than three out of five people will vote Yes in the forthcoming Same-Sex Marriage Survey.
