Moldova Overturns Gay Propaganda Ban

Similar to the controversial anti-gay laws in Russia, Moldova’s law banned ‘the promotion of relationships other than those linked to marriage and the family’.

Moldova repealed the ban this weekend in the hopes of being offered an EU Association Agreement at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, Lithuania this November.
Moscow opposed the decision, as did many Orthodox Christians, many of which gathered outside the parliament building to try to prevent lawmakers from entering.

“Today they are allowing this propaganda and tomorrow they will allow gay marriages,” said one protester, Orthodox priest Ghenadie Valuta.

Overturning the ban is the first step in introducing a new anti-discrimination law in the country.
