The two thematically linked dramas Banana and Cucumber will be aired next year on Channel 4, and promise to show a more candid and honest side to gay life in 2013.
Davies told The Guardian that despite how much he loved the groundbreaking series, his new projects will not be a revival of the 2000’s Queer As Folk, even though it is also set in Manchester.
Cucumber centres around 40 something Henry and his long term boyfriend. After date night involves a death, a threesome, the Glee Christmas album and two police cars, their comfortable home life is gone forever.
Meanwhile, Banana will be aired on Channel 4’s youth channel E4, and will focus on the contrasting lives of young gay people. It is set to feature a young lesbian called Scotty and 19 year-old Dean.
An online spin off, Tofu will be available to stream online alongside the series’. Each episode of Tofu will link to a sexual incident or mishap in Banana and Cucumber in a sex guide format.
