Stan Australia has released the new gay drama series Invisible Boys, a powerful and realistic – as well as quite steamy – show that captures the queer experience.

Charlie Roth (Joseph Zada), Zeke Calogero (Aydan Clafiore), Kade “Hammer” Hammersmith (Zach Blampied) and Matt Jones (Joe Klocek) portray four very different young men. However, they have a common fear: they share the experience of feeling invisible because of their sexuality.

“Everyone in a small town assumes they know you, but when a closeted gay adolescent hooks up with a married guy, it has far-reaching effects for a group of teens who were previously invisible,” the official synopsis states.

Set against the backdrop of the 2017 same-sex marriage vote in Australia, the series explores the challenges faced by this group of gay teens in a remote coastal town after one of them is outed on social media following an encounter with a married man.

Boys in the Trees’ Nicholas Verso, the director of Invisible Boys, based the series on Holden Sheppard’s award-winning novel of the same name. So far, the show has received raving reviews, saying it offers the perfect balance between entertainment, provocation, and faithful representation of what it’s like to live closeted.

In past decades, queer sex scenes usually have consisted of five seconds of kissing and blurry images suggesting intimacy. Fortunately, things are changing over time and now we also get hot LGBTQ+ sex scenes portrayed on TV. Invisible Boys is highly contributing to this queer sex representation on screen. In addition to its realistic and sensitive narrative, the show has also been praised for its explicit and authentic sex scenes.

“I’ve never seen an Australian production like it. It’s pushing boundaries. It’s got heart”, said actor Joe Klocek in an interview with Nine.

Invisible Boys is for anyone who doesn’t feel like they belong. I hope it shows those people that they do belong and that if you find your people, you don’t need anything else because love conquers all”, he continued.

Invisible Boys is now streaming in Australia on Stan. A worldwide release date is yet to be announced, but you can watch the trailer now! Meanwhile, stay tuned for further updates on this promising show.
