Harry Potter Fan's Perfect Hogwarts Proposal

We’ve seen so many gay couples get engaged after elaborate, over the top flashmob proposals and they are starting to lose their cute factor for us – but for Harry Potter fans, this will really pull at your heart strings.

Nicholas (25) popped the question to his boyfriend of five years, Ben (22) at the Hogwarts attraction in Universal Orlando, Florida. Both men are massive superfans of the boy wizard, so Nicholas thought that it would be the most special place to get down on one knee.

Nicholas explained to Gay Star News, “I had planned the proposal since April, so about eight months. We are both HUGE Harry Potter fans and this would be the first year that he came down to Florida with my family.”

He spent the day going on rides and seeing the sights with his boyfriend, unbeknownst to Ben that Nicholas was planning something huge.

“By this time the butterflies were pretty much unstoppable. I had tried all morning to turn my mind to enjoying the parks and less about the proposal,” Nicholas said.

“We exited the [Hogwarts Express] platform and started heading towards the castle, which is in the back corner…so it seemed to take ages. I told my cousin that we should ‘get a picture’ and he knew right away what I meant. I couldn’t wait any longer. My stomach was aching and I had held the secret far too long.

“So, I had Ben stand where I could make sure the castle was in the background and went to propose. My hands were shaking which was equally shocking as I was perfectly settled to propose the night before. And in front of (thank God, less than a hundred) people I proposed, and he said yes.

“It was fantastic, wonderful, magical, and tear-inducing. It was perfect.”

While they are thrilled to be engaged, they are in no rush to exchange vows. “We both want a ‘proper’ engagement period. It’s no fun getting married straight away because then you miss out on calling your significant other your fiancé…or fian-gay in our case.”
