Have you ever wanted to stay at the castle from the ultimate midnight movie? Well, now you can! The iconic castle from The Rocky Horror Picture Show is now a hotel open to the public for bookings. 

Oakley Court served as the castle and one of the principal filming locations for the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. With the film’s enduring popularity and legacy through its midnight showings, shadow cast performances, stage plays and interactive screenings, the Oakley Court hotel will bring in many a Rocky Horror fan to see this part of cult cinema history. 

The estate has a long history in film production, in particular horror. In 1949, the property was used as the filming location for classic horror titles from Britain’s Hammer Film Productions. While previously shooting films in the building itself, many went on to use the grounds as an eerie exterior location, which can be seen in The Reptile, The Brides of Dracula and The Plague of the Zombies, among others.

Once hosting icons like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, it was one particular horror legend that would make Oakley Court his home: the eccentric scientist Dr Frank-N-Furter, played fiendishly by the late, great Tim Curry.

Filmed at both Oakley Court and the neighbouring Bray Studios, its most notable location has to be the castle where the uptight and square couple Brad and Janet seek refuge when their car breaks down. Unbeknownst to them, this castle is home to the hedonistic Dr Frank-N-Furter and is aptly referred to as “the Frankenstein place” in the song ‘Over at the Frankenstein Place’, performed by Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Richard O’Brien.

The film’s finale reveals that the castle is not actually a castle at all, but rather a spaceship, which departs for planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania. In reality, the estate is not a spaceship, nor is it even a castle but instead a Gothic-styled Victorian mansion. Despite years of refurbishment, its distinctive Gothic façade remains largely unchanged, as seen when Brad and Janet approach seeking shelter.
