British Prime Minister David Cameron has appointed an anti-gay marriage politician as Equalities Minister.
Today, in yet another stupid decision, re-elected Tory leader David Cameron has appointed the anti-gay marriage politician MP Caroline Dinenage as the Minister for Equalities.
Um, what?
Yes, Dinenage has landed the position of Minister for Equalities at the Department for Education. She was also appointed under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice with Michael Gove – who himself called for the return of hanging in 1998.
In 2013, Dinenage reportedly said banning same-sex marriage would “take nothing away from their relationships”.
In a statement recently issued by the Department for Education, Ms Dinenage admitted there might be “concerns” about her voting record but said: “I am fully committed to advancing the cause of LGBT equality and support the law on same-sex marriage.”
The news comes just a day after David Cameron appointed MP John Whittingdale to the role of Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport; Whittingdale has consistently voted against gay rights legislation including equal marriage over the last 20 years.
This comes after Cameron’s appointment of Priti Patel as Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions who has previously said that she would support the reintroduction of capital punishment.
Yesterday, David Cameron pledged to scrap Labour’s Human Rights Act and replace it with the British Bill of Rights, which would not be available to use in “trivial” matters.
