Supermodel Josephine Skriver has spoken out on what it was like to be raised by her lesbian mom and gay dad, after being conceived through IVF.

Victoria’s Secret model, Josephine Skriver, explained how she uses her position to share her story of being conceived through IVF to break down stigmas against non-traditional families. 

The 22 year-old works as an ambassador for the Family Equality Council and its Outspoken Generation Program, taking time to speak out about her non-traditional upbringing, hitting back at critics of IVF children and gay parents. 

Speaking to i-D, the Danish model shared her powerful message to critics of IVF, saying “I am not a science experiment.” 

“You get so many ‘She’s not made the natural way, she shouldn’t even be here’,” she said. “I am not synthetic. I am a real human being. I am just as real as you are.”

In Denmark in 1992, Skriver’s dad answered an ad put forth by her mother, asking for a gay man or couple if they would be interested in having a child. 

Skriver’s dad was about to marry his partner when he answered the ad and, within nine months, Skriver was born. She also has a brother. 

The video comes two months after a worldwide boycott of designers Dolce & Gabbana, following their comments that IVF children are ‘synthetic’.
