The Emerald Warriors will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the Bingham Cup (The Gay Rugby World Cup)

 
The Emerald Warriors, Ireland’s gay rugby team, will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Bingham Cup from the 27-29 May 2016.

The Warriors will compete alongside fifty rugby teams from countries around the world including the UK, USA, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Holland, Belgium New Zealand and Australia.

listed in August 2003 to provide the “members of the LGBT and the wider community with an opportunity to play competitive rugby in Dublin,” said an Emerald Warriors spokesperson. “The club entered the Leinster Metro Junior League in 2007 and continues to play in the league.”

Approximately forty of the Emerald Warriors players, members and supporters will travel to Nashville for the Bingham cup and (hopefully) they will be taking it home as the winners!
 

The Bingham Cup, named in honour of Mark Bingham of the San Francisco Fog rugby team, is held every two years as a World, non-professional rugby union tournament which has its origins in San Francisco where the sporting event was first held in 2002. Following San Francisco, the Bingham Cup was previously held in London, New York, Dublin, Manchester, Minneapolis and Sydney.
