Happy weekend! Here’s a slew of new pop music worth getting excited about from the beguiling synth pop of Kyla La Grange’s new single to the roller-disco sheen of Alison Valentine’s latest. And there’s the small matter of one R&B icon teaming with Disclosure while an R&B newcomer makes their presence felt.

Alison Valentine – Curious

Alison Valentine breathy, nostalgia-tinged hipster pop has won over fans over the last 12 months showing an ear for both a killer pop hook and layering sounds that hark back to disco and retro-synth pop. On new tune Curious she adds a stomping beat to proceedings that create a hazy, summer-y slab of electronic disco-pop that will make you feel like you’re flying about a roller-disco in 70s San Francisco with every listen. There’s a free download of it available too so you’ve no excuse not to give it a go.

Kyla La Grange – Cut Your Teeth

A Florence and the Machine sounding debut from this UK singer-songwriter did OK back in 2012 but on this new single La Grange has turned to a sleeker synth-pop sound that sounds like a melancholic on the kind of acoustic turned dance pop Ellie Goulding excels at. A slow-burning but addictive song it’s a huge sleeper hit in the making.

Tinashe – 2 On feat. Schoolboy Q

This R&B star is due to release a debut album with Sony later this year but has been building word of mouth and an online following since 2012 with well received mixtapes showing her Aaliyah-esque delivery and assured vision. 2 On is her debut single proper (And her recently released mixtape Black Water is well worth seeking out) and it’s a confident R&B cut that would sound perfect worming it’s way out of big club speakers. A minimal but interesting groove snaps around her warm voice and it suggests that Tinashe could break through in a big way this year.

Disclosure – F For You feat. Mary J. Blige

Disclosure’s 2013 was undeniably huge and this track was already something of a fan favourite before Mary J got involved. Having performed together last week we’ve now got a finished studio version of their team up. While it’s easy to be cynical about roping a big star onto an existing track this is an impressive way to add to an already great tune. Blige’s voice is well suited to the 90s house flavour of Dislcosure and she makes her presence felt from her very first note. An exciting team-up that lives up to hype.
