Eurovision winner Loreen set to headline Mother Pride Block Party this year
Mother have just announced Swedish LGBT artist Loreen as their main act for this year’s Mother Pride Block Party on Saturday June 24 in the Tivoli on Francis St.
Winner of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, Loreen is best known for ear-worm Euphoria which catapulted the singer to international fame.
Combining incredible live vocals with energetic modern choreography, Loreen won the hearts (and of course votes) of Eurovision lovers across the continent.
Idol
But who was Loreen before winning the song contest in 2012?
Well, Loreen first rose to national fame in Sweden in 2004 when she competed in the talent competition Idol 2004 as Lorén Talhaoui, placing third by public vote and finishing fourth in the competition overall.
On the reality show she performed songs from music icons including Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Pink.
Following her stint on reality TV, the singer worked in front of and behind the cameras in presenting and directorial roles over the next few years. Loreen returned to her singing career with a bang in 2012 following her Eurovision win by releasing the album Heal, which was updated with a 2013 edition to include more tracks.
Loreen’s post-Eurovision tracks showcase her distinctive voice, like the 2013 song We Got The Power, an upbeat pop anthem that’ll have you dancing, and My Heart Is Refusing Me. She’s also working on a new album.
Bisexual
In 2011, Loreen hinted at her sexuality, indicating that she’s not just attracted to men.
“I’m open. I want to find love,” the Euphoria singer said. “And if I find it with a woman and it feels right, then it is right.”
The Swedish singer officially confirmed that she is bisexual earlier this year in an interview on a Swedish television show.
“Many people are so focused on sex, on sexuality. Love is so much more. I usually say ‘Love is where you find it’,” Loreen said and when pressed by the presenter to clarify her sexuality, she confirmed that she “quite simple” was bisexual.
The LGBT icon and powerhouse vocalist will be sure to blow the crowds away at Mother Pride Block Party 2017, so make sure to get your tickets before it sells out!
Also performing at this year’s must see Pride event are Panti, Veda & her coven of witches and Daithí, making the Tivoli the place to be for Dublin Pride 2017.
More information can be found at the Facebook event page and tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite here.
Mother Pride Block Party 2017 takes place from 4-11:30pm on Saturday June 24 in the Tivoli, Francis St, Dublin.
