Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, Will Poulter and Charlotte Rampling, and set in 1948, Sarah Waters’ (pictured) novel tells the story of a haunted house and its disturbed inhabitants, and a doctor who becomes emotionally involved with terrifying consequences.

The Little Stranger marks the second time Abrahamson will have worked on an adaptation by a lesbian author. He directed Emma Donoghue’s Room in 2015. Brie Larson won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in the film.

While Emma Donoghue adapted Room for the screen, the script for The Little Stranger was written by BAFTA nominee Lucinda Coxon (The Danish Girl).

Four of Sarah Waters novels have been made into TV series, but The Little Stranger is only the second film adaptation of her work, after The Handmaiden (2016), which is based on her 2002 novel, Fingersmith.

The Little Stranger will reach cinemas in 2018, and we can’t wait!
