Today marks the anniversary of the horrific suicide bombing at Manchester Arena during an Ariana Grande gig which tragically took the lives of 22 people, many of that number including children. Dozens more at the event were injured by the blast.

Grande took to Twitter to post a message of support which read, “I love you with all of me and am sending you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day.” The inclusion of the worker bee emoji represented Manchester, a symbol which many embraced after the tragedy, 1000’s tattooing themselves with the image.

Grande was obviously hugely affected by the tragedy. Pictures shared on social media at the time showed the singer visiting injured fans in hospital. She then organised the One Love Manchester benefit concert in aid of the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. The event included appearances by Katy Perry, Coldplay and Justin Bieber amongst others. Reports from the British Red Cross stated they had received more than £10 million in donations following the event.

Social media users have also been discussing the anniversary in their posts. One user stating, “This time last year I couldn’t sleep because I had just bought tickets for Ariana and booked my hotel in Manchester. Tonight, I can’t sleep because of the memories.”

Another user poignantly posted the names of the 22 people killed in the attack.

A friend of Martyn Hett, one of the victims, posted a tribute to his lost friend. “It nearly marks a year since the events in Manchester. Thank you to martyn’s incredible friends and family for trusting me to make this in his memory. This is how you live life, with laughter and endless love.”

A national one minute of silence will be respected at 2.30 across the UK. As one social media user shared, “To remember the 22 angels taken away.”

Our thoughts go out to those affected by the tragedy.
