A 25 year-old bodybuilder is out on bail after admitting to stabbing his gay roommate 16 times. Geoffrey Tracy has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree attempted murder of his 50 year-old former roommate Gregory Kancez. He is also on trial for first-degree assault. Prosecutors at his hearing offered him a 20-year prison sentence in exchange for a guilty plea but he did not take it.

The attack occurred on August 14 in the apartment the men shared in New York City. Kancez survived after he was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he received treatment for multiple stab wounds to his neck, chest and shoulder.

The fitness model claimed he was defending himself from Kancez, who he believed was coming on to him.

Tracy told the police:

“The guy tried to make moves on me, I told him no, then he said he’d shoot me, so I had to defend myself.

“I had a knife to him, he went for the gun. I filmed myself on my iPhone saying I didn’t want to kill him. He had a gun. I had to kill him.”

Tracy subsequently admitted that he did not actually see a gun. The bodybuilder then discarded the knife in a dumpster.

Tracy is no longer in custody after his $500,000 bond was paid. He is still active on Instagram, after posting his first photo since the attack last month.

Tracy had just recently moved to New York from California after obtaining employment in a strip club. His employer then organised for Tracy to live with Kancez. Tracy claims that Kancez had prevented Tracy from leaving the apartment after flirting with him.

Norman LaChance, Kancez’ ex-boyfriend spoke about the attack saying: “[Tracy’s] so muscular and Greg’s not. You could have thrown him out and ran out the door. You don’t stab somebody.”
