Drag Aid for Chechnya 2 is a drag-themed night which will take place in the Generator Hostel, Smithfield on Thursday March 28 at 8 pm. Think Live Aid, but swap out rock stars for glittering Drag Queens and Kings, and Wembley for The Generator.

In light of the violation of the human rights of LGBT+ people who are being kidnapped and tortured in anti-gay camps in Chechnya, a group of drag queens and drag enthusiasts have put their skills and resources together to do something proactive. Drag Aid for Chechnya 2, has a spectacular line up of some of the best drag acts Dublin has to offer as well as a quiz to test your wit and knowledge.

Drag Aid for Chechnya originally took place in 2017, when Dublin Queen Bonnie Anne Clyde joined forces with friends who have professional backgrounds in events, fundraising, photography and graphic design to raise awareness and vital funds for those suffering in Chechnya. Together, Bonnie, Eve, James, Maeve and Mark raised nearly €10,000 to help evacuate those most in need.

Bonnie Ann Clyde, who is spearheading the event, said, “Our LGBT+ brothers and sisters may be far away, and it can seem like there’s not a lot we can do, but we’ve shown in the past we CAN make a difference when we come together as a community. Let’s do it again on March 28th!”

Tickets are €10 per person at the door, with tables of four on a first come, first serve basis and Drag Dollars can be purchased on arrival to tip your favourite queens. Full line-up, drag cocktails (did someone say Valentequila?) and prizes to be announced on the Facebook event. If you would like to sponsor this event with prizes please contact [email protected]

All money raised will go to the continued effort to keep LGBT+ people in Chechnya safe from persecution.
