It’s been a year since the iconic Repeal the 8th referendum and this time last year we were in the thick of having complex, sensitive and multi-faceted conversations about choice and why we needed to Repeal the 8th.
One of the many media resources that helped keep us all informed, sane and a GCN team favourite was Don’t Stop Repealin by Andrea Horan (creator of politics portal The HunReal Issues and co-owner of Dublin’s favourite nail bar Tropical Popical), and Una Mullally (long-standing Irish Times journalist and editor of Repeal the 8th). It’s the first anniversary of Repeal and the two are back with United Ireland, a new podcast and a new proposition, 32 Counties, 32 Questions.
Speaking about United Ireland, the creators say: “we wanted to do something that challenged current affairs broadcasting formats in Ireland, and brought something new to the party. United Ireland is our new podbaby.”
“United Ireland is a weekly 32-episode podcast delving into the issues you care about in Ireland, and around the world.” Each week the show will focus on an Irish county, and bring us smart and sound conversations about a question vital to that county, discussing the things that matter to us all with brilliant guests.”
The podcast needs your help. Don’t Stop Repealin’ was made with no budget at all and still aced the podcast charts regularly.
The two explain their position:
United Ireland isn’t paywalled, but it needs to be listener-supported to survive. By signing up to one of our Patreon levels and giving us just a few quid a month, you’ll get a great weekly podcast, access to live events, merch, gratitude, and the delightful feeling of supporting independent, smart Irish broadcasting that brings you amazing guests, intelligent conversations, and refuses to punch down. We want to make game-changing media that gets you talking, learning, and frames issues as things to be discussed intelligently, not fought or fraught.

Support GCN
GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.
During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.
GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
