Last weekend, Sing Along Social at Electric Picnic was an experience like no other as Seán Caroll and the performers climbed into the audience and had the entire crowd down on one knee in an epic proposal.
Seán thought that Electric Picnic would be the perfect place to ask his partner Mark to marry him as it’s where Mark asked him to go out with him seven years ago.
“We met in a pub in Cork in May 2012 called the Bróg. We hit it off and went on a date a month later to Doneraile Park that I forgot closed at 8 pm, so we got locked in. We just hit it off from then”, Sean tells GCN.
“We made things official on the 1st of September 2012 at Electric Picnic. So the festival means a lot to us. We’ve had some amazing memories and experiences there over the years.”

Since they both love Sing Along Social, he thought it was the perfect time to pop the question.
“I love Sing Along Social, and so does Mark, so it all slotted together perfectly.”
Seán got in touch with the organisers of Sing-Along Social who loved the idea and helped make it happen.

“I’ve wanted to do it on our 7th anniversary for the last year at Electric Picnic, but I had no idea how I would do it. I have a great friend, Sarah, who works with Sing Along Social. Two weeks ago we were chatting and the idea popped into my head.
“Sarah told Aoife, who runs Sing Along Social, who loved the idea.”
Seán and the team from Sing Along social put together a plan for the proposal, but Seán wasn’t prepared for what happened next:
“I wanted to make it as special as possible, but I really wasn’t prepared for the number of people and the reaction from the crowd. I had told loads of people, so our friends would be around us, but he never realised.”
If they could, the pair would love to get married at Electric Picnic and plans are now underway for the big day:
“Electric Picnic was our beginning; it was where it all started. If we could, we would probably get married at Electric Picnic too.
“Honestly, I would love to do it as soon as possible, but in reality, it will be about 18 months to 2 years, I think?”
