Lizzo mural brings a pop of colour to Dublin

Though the Lizzo mural may be a work in progress by street artist Emma Blake, everyone is already living for the gorgeous artwork.

Lizzo mural based on the singers 'Cuz I Love You' tour image went up yesterday.

The immensely talented street artist Emma Blake has honoured Lizzo with a stunning mural of the singer’s Cuz I Love You tour image on Chatham Row, Dublin.

Ahead of Lizzo’s show in the Olympia Theatre on November 10th, a mural of the singer went up on the side of Chatham Row and South William Street. Reacting to news of the mural, Lizzo posted on Twitter “WAIT… OMG.”

If the mural wasn’t gorgeous enough, there is still more to come as it’s only the typical Irish downpour which has sadly prevented further work. Martina Keogh, who worked on the mural alongside Blake, replied to Lizzo’s reaction with, “It’s not finished yet but it’s amazing, as is my super talented, powerful, female street artist friend.”

Further highlighting the difficulties of working with the weather, Blake posted on Twitter, “Day 1 of this finished. Supposed to be finishing it today if the rain ever eases up! Wouldn’t usually post a WIP photo here but since other people have already posted it online here yiz are.”

Blake has created many wonderful pieces of art across the city. Recently, she created a mural of Sister Michael from the Derry Girls with the caption “Another hotel? Christ” on the side of the Bernard Shaw.

Detailing the progress of the Lizzo mural, Martina wrote, “Took the whole day but so worth it for the queen @lizzo I know what you’re all thinking how did I do the orange background? But look @emmaleneblake made it better with the actual art.”

The two of them have formed a dream team bringing a splash of colour to the grey streets of Dublin that has everyone “feeling good as hell.” One Twitter user said, “Can’t believe I get to pass by a Lizzo mural every day.”

When tickets for Lizzo’s Dublin show sold out in seconds after they went up for sale, fans were left disappointed and frustrated. Yet this celebration of the singer has lifted everyone’s spirits. Street art in Dublin continues to thrive, heading in new and exciting directions regardless of rain or shine.

As Lizzo sings, “If I’m shinin’, everybody gonna shine.”
