A new track recorded by British pop icon George Michael before his death in 2016 has been released.
The song, ‘This Is How (We Want You To Get High)’ is featured in new film ‘Last Christmas’ which was inspired by and featured his music.
The song is the first original release from George Michael since 2012.
A press release about the new song said: “The previously unreleased track, which was recorded during George’s final studio sessions, is his first original material to be shared for seven years.
“The lyrics, written exclusively by George, see the star addressing society’s ills with his trademark blend of self-deprecation and wry humour.”
A video was released alongside the track with lyrics and archival footage of the singer.
Work on the new track started by George Michael in 2012 and it was finalised in 2015 in his last ever studio session before his death.
Three other previously unreleased song will also feature on the film’s soundtrack.
‘Last Christmas’ hits Irish cinemas on November 15.
George Michael rose to fame with his schoolfriend Alan Ridgeley in Wham! whose hits include ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’ and the perennial festive song ‘Last Christmas’ which every year heralds the holidays.
George Michael went on to be a successful solo artist with hits including ‘Faith’ and ‘Outside’, with the singer releasing the music video to ‘Outside’ to ridicule an incident in 1998 which saw him arrested in a public toilet for engaging in sexual activity and led the artist to reveal that he was gay.
The music video for ‘Outside’ featured a men’s bathroom which changed into a disco and featured policemen kissing.
Michael was also arrested several times in the past ten years for driving under the influence and possession of drugs.
In 2011, George Michael suffered from pneumonia and in 2013 he injured his head when he fell out of his car.
The singer passed away from natural causes on Christmas Day in 2016, aged 53.
