Newsreader Aengus Mac Grianna tied the knot with his long time partner Terry Gill, in an emotional ceremony where he was walked up the aisle by Anne Doyle.
The couple were civil partnered in a venue in Ballymacgarvey village, Co Meath yesterday afternoon with a host of is RTE colleagues in attendance.
Anne Doyle, veteran RTE news anchor, was moved to be asked to give her long time friend away at the alter. She told The Irish Daily Star,”It was a wonderful honour for me to play a part in the ceremony, and of course, I shed a tear or two.
“But it was also a very joyous occasion because there’s something very rare and wonderful about two people making a commitment to each other for the rest of their lives.”
Mac Grianna and Gill, who have been together for over a decade, said their vows in front of 150 friends and family. Mac Grianna said that when it came to pick someone to give him away, Doyle was an obvious choice.
“From the very beginning Anne always looked out for me,” he said.
“She has watched and guided me along the way and at key junctions in my life – she has always been there. She has been a major influence on me. She’s a one-off.”
