An US anti-gay preacher, known for carrying a placard reading ‘You Deserve Rape’ was hit in the head with a baseball bat while protesting outside a school.
Dean Saxton, known as Brother Dean, was using a megaphone to inform students at Apollo High School in Glendale, Arizona, that gay students would be going to hell and that muslims are “dirty.”
In an incident capture on video, Saxton shouts “Many of you Apollo High schoolers are going to hell!” before being challenged by a teacher who tells him “I think you’re a disgrace to Christianity. Why don’t you go and preach it to somebody who really wants to hear your message, like Westboro Baptist Church?”
Following some more exchanges with the counter-protesters, Saxton is then struck by the bat off-camera to cheers from the crowd. Following the assault Saxton, who received 8 staples in hospital, uploaded the footage of the incident (which took place on April 26) to YouTube on May 5.
This was followed by a Twitter post in which Saxton posted a photo of himself with blood running down his face with the caption: “If you think the gay community accepts and tolerates others just wait till they hit you over the head with a metal bat.”
His assailant 19-year-old Tabitha Renee Brubaker, a former Apollo High student, was later arrested at home after being identified by school’s assistant principal.
Brubaker is facing three felony charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The other two counts are drug-related charges, after police found marijuana in her possession.
A judge set her bail at $10,000 and scheduled a status conference for June 3, followed by preliminary hearing on June 6, reports KFVS.
The assault takes place at 17:11, but be warned: there is blood.
