According to officials, Mr Wilson has made history by being the first MP to ever propose on the floor of the house.

The Proposal

“In my first speech, I defined our bond by the ring that sits on both of our left hands.” said Wilson. “They [the rings] are the answer to the question we cannot ask, so there is only one thing left to do.

“Ryan Patrick Bolger, will you marry me?”

The emotional proposal was met with a applause by House Representatives.  Ryan responded from the public gallery with big “yes” and it was clear to see other MP’s visibly moved by the momentous occasion.

Speaker of the House Rob Mitchell recorded the occasion, including Ryan’s answer, adding, “That was a ‘yes’, a resounding ‘yes’. Congratulations, well done, mate.”

Marriage Equality Bill Debate

The debate commenced five days after the bill that would allow same-sex couples to get married was passed in the Senate.

Wilson is just one of many speakers who will take to the floor to debate the bill over the coming days.

It is thought that it should pass easily and we should see a result by the end of this week, if there are no major amendments to the legislation.
