As the old saying goes, “if you can’t be with the one you love, love the wine you’re with”, words that Michael James Schneider and #BoxWineBoyfriend, now #BoxWineFiancé his lives by.
The writer and artist from Portland Oregan built a boyfriend out of wine boxes, #BoxWineBoyfriend, last February called Franz, and although boxed wine has no corks, Franz was able to *pop* the question to Michael in front of his friends in Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.
The whole ceremony was caught on camera and quickly went viral, with Michael displaying his engagement ring which features a “Push Here” label from a wine box.

Speaking to PinkNews, Schneider said: “I was so surprised to be engaged, but really we’re in a place where we’re ready for the next step.
“Everything happens for a Riesling,” he added.
“Ideally we’d love to have a local venue donate their space and have the wedding be a fundraiser for the ACLU; we want it to be a modest wedding filled with friends and family, but also open to anyone who celebrates love.
“In any case,” he quipped, “we have a rosé future ahead of us.”
The pair has lived together for a year and enjoy cooking and shopping together, and enjoy breakfast in bed with their cat and walks in the park.
He told KGW News that they met on an app called ‘Winer’.
“People are a little afraid of the dating apps, they think it’s a little ‘50 Shades of Grape’ on there that it’s not. It was love at first sip”, he told the news host.
They are looking for venues and said that although it’s a complex issue for the couple, there will be wine.
He said next on the cards for the couple is to Meet The Parents. We hope all goes well for Michael and Franz and that there aren’t any sour grapes when their parents meet.
