Jake Gyllenhaal sat down with HuffPost Live and discussed his pivotal role in 2005’s ‘Brokeback Mountain’, and the political significance of the Oscar winning film.

The 33 year-old actor took a break from promoting his latest film Nightcrawler to talk about Brokeback Mountain, the groundbreaking film that tells the story of the relationship between Jack Twist (Gyllenhaal) Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger).

“It was very successful in many different ways,” said Gyllenhaal. “It gave me the idea that movies can be important, that they do have some sort of political value. It’s an honor to be a part of it and it was the universe bringing it my way.” He went on to praise director Ang Lee, calling him a “master filmmaker”, for bringing the story to life.
