Carrie Brownstein has signed on to join Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett and Sarah Paulson in the film adaption of ‘The Price of Salt’, a drama about lesbians in the ’50s.
The project, which is based on based on Patricia Highsmith’s book ‘The Price of Salt’, is titled Carol. It follows Therese (Rooney Mara), a department store clerk in 1950s New York who becomes obsessed with another woman, played by Cate Blanchett.
Brownstein, known for starring in and co-creating TV series, Portlandia, will play Genevieve Cantrell, a woman who has an encounter with Therese.
The film is currently in production and also stars Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story, 12 Years A Slave). I’m Not There director Todd Haynes will be at the helm.
