The interviewer in question, former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, made the unfortunate comments during the debut of her new NBC morning show. The cast of Will & Grace had assembled to promote the new series which starts this week.
Kelly invited along super-fan Russell Turner to meet the cast. When he appeared on stage, Kelly asked “Is it true that you became a lawyer — and you became gay — because of Will?”

Turner laughed off the comments, but before he left Kelly doubled-down on the stupidity by exclaiming “I think the Will & Grace thing and the gay thing is going to work out great!”
Twitter, unsurprisingly, was quick to condemn Kelly’s tone-deaf comments. One commentator encapsulated the former Fox anchor’s faux-pas succinctly: “Megyn Kelly is every mom trying waaaaay to hard to “relate” to her gay son but instead just makes it waaaaay worse.”

Messing told a fan on Instagram that she was unaware that it was Kelly’s show the cast were supposed to appear on, adding that she regretting the appearance. “Why did you guys do the Megyn Kelly show? That’s a fail!” the commenter asked.
“Honestly I didn’t know it was MK until that morning,” responded Messing. “The itinerary just said Today Show appearance. Regret going on. Dismayed by her comments.”
The new season of Will & Grace will be starts back on Thursday, September 28 at 9pm on US network NBC. No word yet when the show will be broadcast in Europe though, sadly.
