Current Drag Race reigning champion Aquaria didn’t get quite the reception one would expect from the patrons of the UK nightclub Heaven, being booed offstage during one of her numbers.

The trouble began when Aquaria was asked to be the latest celebrity host of the club’s regular ‘Porn Idol’ – a competition night where people from the audience volunteer to compete in stripping and pole dancing routines in order to win a cash prize.

The first seven contestants were selected, but when it came time for the eighth and final choice, Aquaria picked trans performer Love Bailey. Apparently the audience exploded because Love was known to be a friend of the drag queen.

Aquaria posted footage of the moment she was booed offstage to her twitter account along with the caption: “Don’t fucking play this. I’m not the one and the fact that [sic] y’all probably treat performers like this all over the world I fucking disgusting. This is why girls loathe doing their jobs sometimes. Respect yourself and respect others.”

The audience reaction was considerably over the top, with one person tweeting: “I am boycotting Aquaria and Jeremy Joseph (owner of the nightclub) after tonight. Pick someone out of the audience my fucking arse.” This despite the fact seven other people had already been selected.

Aquaria replied: “One of my beautiful trans friends had the bravery to offer an entertaining show for the (many, clearly) undeserving audience members at the club [who were] too busy making fun of the lads and demeaning the women brave/boozed enough to perform for them.”

Although she still hung around for the meet and greet afterwards Aquaria’s anger obviously hadn’t quite abated yet, as she later tweeted; “Don’t wrap your greasy reeking underarm around me at a meet and greet if you smell like shit. Do not.”

While the moment put paid to the notion that life post Drag Race is all glamour, it seems life during the show isn’t all roses either, as notorious ex-contestant Willam recently spilled the T on what goes on behind the scenes.
