EA Says It's Fixing Sims 'Gay' Filter

Games developers EA have said they are working to resolve an error with The Sims 4 that prevents users sharing Sims with LGBT descriptions.

Gamers playing The Sims 4, which was released last week, have reported that the game won’t let them share Sims through its online ‘Gallery’ system if they use LGBT words (like ‘gay’, ‘homosexual’, or ‘queer’) in the character’s name or description, reports Kotaku.

“We can confirm that we are aware and that we are working on a fix which will update the automatic filtering system to permit the use of the words ‘Gay,’ ‘Lesbian’ and ‘Homosexual,'” an EA Australia representative told IGN.

The existence of the ‘gay filter’ was exposed by German gamer Anna Eichenauer, on her YouTube video blog, ‘Why Stuff Is Great’. The video shows Eichenauer attempting to name one of her Sims, and attach a description to that Sim, including a selection of the ‘forbidden’ words.
