With only a few tickets left for the queerest night of the year, we thought we’d give you a rundown of what you need to know about the GALAS 2024. Organised to recognise those making outstanding contributions to Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community, this year’s awards ceremony will take place in the Dublin Royal Convention Centre at the Radisson Blue Hotel on Saturday, October 5.

Organised by GCN and the National LGBT Federation (NXF), the GALAS are Ireland’s only LGBTQ+ awards programme and have been running since 2009 – with a pause of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The ceremony is the biggest fundraising event of the year for the NXF and GCN, both registered charities working for the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland and beyond.

Hosting this year’s awards will be none other than triple-threat performer Paul Ryder, best known for his appearances on stages, screens and airwaves and beloved among the community for his drag artistry; and presenter and content creator Cassie Stokes, famous for spotlighting the ‘Best Of’ what Ireland has to offer.

This dynamic duo will present the 13 GALAS categories, acknowledging the efforts made by individuals, organisations and companies who work towards a better future for LGBTQ+ people in Ireland. The contenders for each of the awards were nominated by the public and subsequently reduced to a shortlist chosen by Irish advocacy groups.

During the evening, the audience will also be delighted by incredible performances, including an opening concert by Glória LGBT+ Choir and jaw-dropping music by the one and only SexyTadhg. To end the night with a blast, Mother DJ Glamo will play tunes ’till late for those who would like to get their dancing shoes on.

Support GCN

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.

During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.

GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
